Today marks five months until the Canoe Launch Party from Itasca State Park in Minnesota. I feel like there is so much to do to prepare and time is going by fast. That being said I feel like we’ve accomplished a lot already. This trip has a purpose and that is to raise awareness and money for ShelterBox USA. This is a disaster relief charity that provides life saving equipment rapidly after natural and man made disasters in the form of tented shelter, blankets, water purification kits, cooking gear, mosquito netting, solar lights and other items to ensure survivors receive shelter, warmth, and dignity after their worst day ever.
In this past month our team has created the website, social media pages, started contacting sponsors and have already raised thousands of dollars for this amazing charity. Now that the groundwork has been laid for the awareness part of the Mississippi River trip I can start to focus on preparing for the actual trip. I normally stay in fairly good shape but I want to be prepared physically for the demands of canoeing well over 2000 miles, portaging solo, camping for the majority of 3 months, and roughing it. In order to make this a little easier I am taking my physical training up a notch. I will be posting more about my training on both the website and our social media pages and I invite you to follow along.
