Day 84

Day 84/Sept 28 Fri Oak Alley Plantation, Vacherie, Louisiana. This morning I took the tour of the plantation house and walked around the grounds at Oak Alley before heading out in the canoe. The oaks are 300 years old and before the levy was built, it would have been visible from the water. The picture looking away from the house ends at the levy where I took out yesterday and just walked over, and it’s where I’ll put back in today. The plantation has guest cabins and a restaurant but it also is a big museum with exhibits on plantation life for the planters as well as the slaves. There are a few plantations along this road open to tourists, but I have a lot of paddling to do, so a quick tour was all I had time for. @ Oak Alley Plantation
