I have wanted to do this Source to Sea canoe trip down the Mississippi River as long as I can remember. I have talked about it, had it on my bucket list, and made it know that this was something I was going to accomplish. I decided years back that I was going to do it as a present to myself for my 40th birthday. Today, May 21st, is that day. I am not starting my journey today however. A little over four years ago my Rotary Club came to me and asked me if I’d be willing to postpone my journey by about a month and a half. The Rotary calendar year goes from July 1st of June 30th. The reason is that they wanted to put me in line to be President of our club and my term would go until June 30th 2018. The Cape Coral Rotary Club has a system where you serve a year as Secretary, Treasurer, President Elect and then President. It is a four year commitment so you can learn all the aspects of the Club as well as serve on the Board of Directors.
I was dead set on leaving on my journey on May 21st 2018 however after some consideration I realized what an honor and an opportunity it would be to serve my club and our community in the role as President. As I wind down my year as President I truly realize what a blessing this year has been. I have learned a lot and grown as a person. This has been one of the best years of my life. I am truly grateful for the opportunities the Rotary Club of Cape Coral has offered me. Now the next chapter of my life is about to begin. On July 7th I will begin my goal of conquering the Mighty Mississippi. Thank you to all who have supported me during my Rotary career and for helping to make these dreams possible.
